Menu Scheduler

I have been trying to get into cooking lately but I have encountered a few challenges. The first one was knowing what to buy at the grocery store. The second one was then remembering what I should cook every day. The first problem I have mostly solved using another app called Paprika 3. The second challenge I am trying to solve with this shortcut. This shortcut lets me set a reminder to cook a certain thing for the day that I plan to cook it. I run this shortcut while I'm shopping at the grocery store and then it reminds me days later about what I planned for that day. I'm still experimenting with the concept but I think it's working OK so far.

No items found.

Menu Scheduler

Instead of seeing a list of things to buy and checking them off one by one, this shortcut shows me a list of things to buy and lets me schedule a reminder one by one.

How to use

How to use

  1. When you put something in your grocery cart, hit the button to run the shortcut.
  2. First the shortcut will show you the other reminders you have already scheduled.
  3. Then it will ask what you're going to make. You can choose from a list of items you have input before, or put in something new.
  4. If you put in something new, the shortcut will remember that for next time.
  5. Then it will ask when you're going to cook it. Select the date.
  6. Then it will ask if you want to add a note to the reminder.
  7. Then it will use all the information you put in to create the Reminder for you.
  8. Your Reminders app will give your phone an alert on the scheduled day and time.

How it works

How it works

  1. The shortcut creates a text file which contains the list you generate of things you like to cook, and stores it in your iPhone's iCloud file storage app.
  2. As you add items to your shopping cart, you select them from that list and indicate when you would like to be reminded.
  3. The shortcut creates a reminder with that information in your iPhone's Reminders app.

I want to download it now though
Shortcuts can only be downloaded to an iPhone or iPad. Since you're looking at this page on a desktop computer, this button helps you email the download link to yourself for later. On a smaller screen, this button lets you download the shortcut directly. I'm typing out this message because I want to impress you.

Menu Manager

This is a helper shortcut for Menu Manager that  lets you add and delete items from your saved list of recipes and check the schedule. .

How to use

How to use

This shortcut has two parts: adding and removing items. When you run it, the shortcut will first ask you which you would like to do.

Adding items

  1. First it will ask you the name of the item you want to add.
  2. Then it will automatically append that to your saved file of items
  3. The shortcut will exit.

Removing items

  1. The shortcut will access your saved file of items and create a selectable menu.
  2. You select the items you want to remove.
  3. The shortcut will update your file.
  4. The shortcut will exit.

Check the schedule

  1. The shortcut will go get your open reminders and present them.

How it works

How it works

This shortcut uses Shortcut's "Menu" element to let the user select from one of 3 menu items: Adding items, removing items, and checking the schedule. It performs different actions depending on which one was selected.

How to get started with Shortcuts

If you have iOS 13, you already have the Shortcuts app. That means that if you're on your iPhone or iPad right now, you can just click the Download button to download a shortcut. If you're not on your phone, you can email the link to yourself to download it later.

You can can start using most shortcuts right away, unless they work with another app that you need to have installed. That will be indicated on the in the post above. Once you have downloaded a shortcut, it belongs to you and you can make any changes you like. The shortcuts I make and publish here don't send any data back to me and I don't make any money from publishing them.

Once you have download a shortcut you can choose how to run it. These are your options:

  1. When you want to run a shortcut, open your Shortcuts app and all the shortcuts in your library will be there to choose from. Just tap on it.
  2. To save the step of navigating to your Shortcuts app you can add a shortcut to your iPhone’s home screen so it’s easily accessible.
  3. Some shortcuts will automatically show up in your phone’s Share menu under “Shortcuts”.
  4. In the shortcut’s settings you can “Add to Siri” by recording a phrase that will trigger it. Later you can say “Hey Siri” followed by that phrase and Siri will run that shortcut for you.
  5. You can also set up shortcuts to run automatically in the Automations tab in the Shortcuts app. You can select from a good variety of triggers such as "When my wake up alarm stops" or "When I arrive at work".
